An Intimate Candlelit Wedding at The Beekman Hotel

There are weddings that unfold exactly as planned, and then there are weddings that feel like they were always meant to be. This was the latter. When this incredible couple from Austin, Texas chose New York City as the backdrop for their most meaningful day, I knew we were about to create something extraordinary together.

You see, this wasn't just a destination wedding—it was something I like to call a reverse destination wedding. The couple had built their life in Austin, but they'd fallen in love with New York the way so many of us do: completely, unexpectedly, and forever. They wanted their people to come to them, to experience the city the way they saw it—moody, magical, alive with possibility. And New York, in all its glory, delivered.

The Night Before — A River Café Romance

It started the night before, at The River Café in Brooklyn. If you've never experienced this legendary New York City restaurant, imagine this: you're sitting by the water, the Manhattan skyline glittering across the East River like a constellation of dreams, and every single moment feels like the opening scene of a film you never want to end.

The rehearsal dinner was everything a New York wedding photographer dreams of—warm, intimate, effortlessly elegant. String lights flickered, champagne flowed, and the most important people in their lives gathered to celebrate what was to come. The views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the reflections dancing on the water, the laughter echoing under the stars—this is why New York City remains one of the world's most breathtaking destinations for rehearsal dinners and celebrations of love.

I spent the evening capturing these quieter moments, knowing that the real magic was still to come.

The Wedding Day — Into The Beekman

The morning of the wedding, I arrived at The Beekman Hotel in Lower Manhattan, and I swear the building itself seems to hold its breath when you walk through its doors. This is one of New York City's most architecturally stunning luxury wedding venues—a place where Victorian grandeur meets modern sophistication in the most breathtaking way.

The nine-story Victorian atrium with its iconic glass ceiling is one of the most photographed spaces in all of New York. But what struck me most wasn't just the architecture—it was the way the light moved through that ceiling, casting shadows and patterns that made everything feel like a painting in motion.

The ceremony and reception were held in the basement space, and the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be something special. Transformed into a moody, candlelit sanctuary, the room was unlike anything else in the city. Dim lighting wrapped around flickering candles like a warm embrace. Rich textures caught the light in unexpected ways. The air itself felt cinematic—deeply personal and impossibly romantic all at once.

This was an intimate wedding, small in guest count but absolutely grand in feeling. Every detail had been considered, every moment thoughtfully curated. And as a New York City luxury wedding photographer, I can tell you: this kind of intimate, candlelit NYC wedding is increasingly rare and increasingly sought after. Couples are discovering that less really can be so much more.

The Details & The Energy

What elevated this downtown Manhattan wedding venue from beautiful to absolutely unforgettable was the music. A live saxophonist played during the ceremony, his notes weaving through the candlelit air like poetry. And when the reception began, a full live band took over, bringing an energy that filled every corner of that luxurious basement space.

The way the music moved through the room, the way the candles flickered in response, the way people moved closer to the dance floor—this is moody wedding photography at its finest. Every frame I captured felt like a scene from a film. Every moment told a story.

The couple moved like they'd been doing this forever, even though they were surrounded by the energy of a city that never sleeps. There was laughter, there were tears, there was dancing that lasted well into the New York night. And through it all, the candlelight held steady, casting a warmth that no filter could replicate.

Why NYC Captures Hearts

Working as a Manhattan wedding photographer and NYC luxury wedding photographer, I've had the privilege of shooting in some of the most iconic venues in the world. But what I love most about weddings like this one is that they're not about the venue—they're about the people.

This Austin couple chose New York City as their wedding destination because they wanted something real, something that felt like them. And that's exactly what they got. A moody, candlelit celebration in one of the most stunning downtown Manhattan wedding venues, surrounded by the people who matter most, in a city that has a way of making everything feel significant.

These are the moments I live for as a New York City destination wedding photographer. The ones where the light is perfect not because I made it that way, but because the day itself was perfect. The ones where every image tells a story that words could never quite capture.

"This is why I do what I do."

If you're planning a wedding in New York City—whether you're from Austin, Texas, California, or right here in the five boroughs—I would love to hear your story. Every couple has a love story worth telling, and I would be honored to tell yours.

To this incredible couple: thank you for trusting me with your day. Thank you for choosing New York, for choosing The Beekman, for choosing candlelight and saxophones and a night that none of us will ever forget. It was an honor to be your NYC wedding photographer.
